Mozart: Mass in C, KV317, "Coronation" & Vesperae Solennes de Cofessore, KV339

  • Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 3 West 65th Street New York, NY, 10023 United States (map)

NY-based classical orchestra Kollective366 brings Mozart’s Salzburg Cathedral to the Upper West Side. Experience two of Mozart’s greatest sacred works written for performance during his time as organist and composer at the Salzburg Cathedral. Mozart’s famed Coronation Mass (K.317) is appropriately grand, with pairs of oboes, horns, trumpets, and timpani. It is a masterpiece of concise and vigorous expression, regarded as the greatest full mass setting by the composer. Mozart’s Solemn Vespers (K.339) was the final composition penned in Salzburg before the composer departed for Vienna in search of greater artistic opportunities.

Untraditionally, this program intertwines into the Mass and Vespers two of Mozart’s orchestral church sonatas and an organ transcription of the Overture from the keyboard Suite K.399, and rather than following traditional vocal models, this presentation will divide the choir into three quartets, each of which will share the roles of choir and soloist.
